Examining a whiteness of teeth of a patient at the dentist

Veneers are thin shells of ceramic or composite resin, and are bonded to the surface of one’s teeth for the following aesthetic purposes:

  • To enhance the shape of worn-out front teeth
  • To correct the color of front teeth that cannot be remedied by whitening
  • To refine minor irregularities in the positioning of the front teeth
  • To refine the appearance of malformed teeth

How is it done?
Generally, there are three stages for the entire treatment — diagnosis and formulation of treatment plan, preparation, bonding. Be sure to let your dentist understand your objectives during the diagnosis and treatment planning stage. Following which, your teeth will be lightly buffed during the preparation stage to allow for the veneer’s added thickness. Approximately half a millimeter of the tooth’s outer layer will be removed.

How long does it take?
Composite resin veneers can usually be done in one appointment. On the other hand, ceramic veneers require a longer timeframe as a mold of your teeth will be have to be sent to a laboratory for the fabrication of the veneers.
